Converting the VW engine requires little more than the addition of a prop and magneto which, if a Vertex, slips into the distributor hole with no rework. Use of an electric tach, wired to the ignition switch, also eliminates making provisions for a tach drive. And machining the crankshaft for the prop hub is no longer a requirement ... a close tolerance prop hub of steel will press on where the fan pulley is removed. This has also been proven out over more than 20 years.Canadian builder reports: "Flight time 1400 hrs. in 21 years. First ring job 1345 hrs. Not bad for 3000 to 3200 rpm continuous."
